What is ERCP?

Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a minimally invasive procedure that allows doctors to:

• Visualize the bile and pancreatic ducts
• Remove stones, place stents, or relieve blockages
• Diagnose strictures, tumors, or infections

The procedure involves inserting a flexible endoscope through the mouth into the stomach and duodenum, followed by the injection of contrast dye into the ducts, which are then visualized using X-ray.

When is ERCP Recommended?

• Gallstones stuck in the bile ducts
• Cholangitis (bile duct infection)
• Pancreatitis caused by duct blockage
• Bile duct strictures or leaks
• Tumors or cancers in the bile or the pancreas
• Biliary stent placement or replacement
